MBDance in Dancing While Black at BAAD!
Maria’s performing Women I Know as a part of Dancing While Black: Voices from the Bush!
What does it mean to be a black artist today in order to shift the power of contextualizing work and articulating aesthetic values into the hands, and bodies of black dancers themselves? Current and former dancers of Urban Bush Women–Maria Bauman, Paloma McGregor, Marjani Forte, and Samantha Speis–are presenting their own brazen dance works, curated by Paloma McGregor.
Women I Know is a contemporary solo about pushing away the walls of an encroaching box of prescribed feminity. The piece includes honest and beautiful photography of women by BJ Watkins and an original score by Ashley Phillips.
Hope to see you there!
